Killam Library - Helen Richter Watson Gallery

FEATURED PROJECT - Famed ceramic artist and Laredo native, Helen Richter Watson believed that if they were inspired and encouraged, the students of Texas A&M International University (TAMIU) could make great contributions to the university and to the art world. Toward that end, the Dolly Richter Watson Foundation donated $1 million to TAMIU to celebrate her life and artistic legacy through the creation of the Helen Richter Watson Gallery in an expansion of the university’s Killam Library.The project, completed under job order contracting (JOC) by Alpha, included enclosing a massive two story breezeway that bisected the Killam Library and the renovation of existing administrative space in order to accommodate the new gallery. The main gallery space now includes display cabinets, new lighting, new interior finishes and large glass wall partitions that open out to the breezeway. An additional space, adjacent to the main gallery, will be used for displaying additional art pieces and for hosting receptions. This project is just one of the many unique JOC projects Alpha has completed at TAMIU.
